The Journey Begins: Crafting My Own TTRPG
I’ve been toying with the idea of building my very own tabletop RPG, but here’s the catch—my experience mainly comes from Dungeons & Dragons (5e, to be exact) and a bit of Pathfinder 1e (aka D&D 3.75). While I love those systems, I’m eager to explore the broader world of TTRPGs and dive into something unique. So, I’ve started gathering core rulebooks from a variety of games to spark some inspiration and learn from what’s already out there.
Here’s what I’ve got so far (or what’s arriving soon):
- Knave 2e
- Cairn
- Pathfinder 1e & 2e
- Altered Carbon
- Dungeon Crawl Classics
- D&D 3e & 4e
- Symbaroum
- Cyberpunk Red
- Vampire: The Masquerade 5e
- Dungeon World
- Dragonbane
There may be a few others I’ve missed, but that’s the bulk of it for now. I’ll also be picking up some books on how to create TTRPGs—Kobold Press has a few fantastic titles on worldbuilding and game design that I’m eager to dive into.
This is where you come in! I know I’m just getting started, and there’s so much to learn. If you have any recommendations—whether it’s other game systems I should check out or resources for game design—I’d love to hear them. Drop your suggestions in the comments or message me over on X (Twitter). And keep an eye out for a Discord server link soon, where we can chat and brainstorm together!
I know I’ve got big dreams and maybe a few too many ideas, but I’m committed to this journey. With time, effort, and plenty of learning, I’m confident I can bring this vision to life. Let’s build something incredible together.
